vampires are sexy…

So the promotional film for Alive performed by Alison and Will has finally seen the light of day and talk about being thrown for a loop! Call it a sick sense of humour on my part but I thought this video was beyond hilarious! Scary demon male dancers taken out and bitten by Olivia Newton-John Physical-era wannabe vampires? Preposterous! It definitely enhances the enjoyment of the song in my book. Granted it’s not my favourite song on Head First but it’s enough to tide me over until someone at Mute decides that I Wanna Life should be the very next song taken from the record. At that point, you will see me skipping down Bedford Avenue like a little girl.

And I will do it too.

“Step out and the crazy world
But then the sun resets your mind
Feel the way all just drift
Before I caught you in another time”

Head First is simply a gorgeous record. It is quite possibly my favourite Goldfrapp record since Felt Mountain if I had to decide right now. Word comes today that the second single to be lifted from the record will be Alive. Like the rest of the record, the song is quite poppy and unabashedly looking straight at the pop charts. To me,  it almost sounds like something the Scissor Sisters would have pulled out of their hats if they went back to being more of an electronic band as they were before they got signed.  The single is out 24 May via Mute.

now i’m a believer…

Leak! Leak! High five goes to Adem for spilling the beans! It’s another song from Head First, the highly anticipated new record from Goldfrapp. This one is called Believer. If official first single Rocket left you frothing in a hot mess of swoon, think of Believer as a bit of a subtle comedown piece. This track could have very easily been found on an Erasure record from Wonderland or The Circus but instead of Andy Bell’s soaring tenor,we have a cool, collected and cheery Alison Goldfrapp relieved as her lover has returned home and into her arms.

Personally I don’t know that this would be “up” enough to be a single release but it’s definitely something to keep us in stitches until the record is released.

Dear Alison,

It must be said that I really took the news of your current relationship really hard. It was an icy dagger right through my vacant heart and left a wound I’m sure will never heal fully. I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt the backhand slap across the face that is disappointment over and over when we all found out. I was about to give up my fanboy attachment to you forever.

Then came Rocket… How cruel can you be, Alison? You break my heart and the just a few short weeks later, you unleash four minutes of pure unadulterated 80s sophisto-pop that threatens to send me into a state of…Oooohhh

What was I saying? Ahh yes… Rocket is so simple, subtle like a pistol-whip across the back of the head…it’s exactly the song we needed to officially ring in the new year and decade. How did you know I’m such a sucker for those 80s synth lead hits? You knew exactly what to do in order to bring me back into the fold! So cruel and yet so right…

I could never leave you.

Yours forever,

Billy Suede.

22 March 2009 is quickly approaching…and the arrival of the fifth Goldfrapp record is sure to whip fans everywhere into a frenzy. Head First will be preceded by a single called Rocket which is to be released 8 March via Mute. What do we think of the album sleeve? A simple picture of our dear Alison Goldfrapp amongst the clouds. A bit tacky? Inspired? You tell me.
