2010. the year of the wu?
Oh hell yes…
First off, let’s get it out of the way right now. 2007’s 8 Diagrams was a colossal bust and outright disappointment aside from a couple of songs. The packaging alone was enough to make one question if this was indeed an official record and not a mixtape. Ghostface singing? Pass… Personally, I really thought this was it for the Clan after years of providing some of the best and most innovative hip hop we’ve ever heard.
Now comes word that arguably rap music’s most influential collective is about to strike once again with a new mixtape called Return Of The Wu & Friends. This one was overseen by Mathematics, who has developed his own sound and has emerged from producer extraordinaire RZA’s immense shadow. The mixtape is due out next month and features all the prominent suspects in the Clan. That’s right aside from the ODB (RIP), it’s the names you’ve come to know and love…Method Man, Ghostface, GZA, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, etc…
One has to wonder if this mixtape has any kind of success if this may result in a new, more focused and hungrier Clan. If that becomes a reality, maybe..just maybe we may hear a new Wu Tang Clan record that is closer to Enter The 36 Chambers than 8 Diagrams.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see but in the meantime, here’s the traclisting.
